On December 5 we lost a giant in the jazz world, Dave Brubeck, and while there have been many moving tributes to him and his music in the past two weeks, there are none more so that the one written by his son Chris. I urge you to go and read it. Not only is it a tribute to a legendary musician, but also to a father, collaborator, and  man who seems to have been a pretty amazing person:

Coincidentally I was recently given the 2013 Dave Brubeck Collection travel grant to go and use his archive at the University of the Pacific (researching his tours to New Zealand and examining the genesis of his piece ‘Maori Blues’), which now is going to be more than a mere research trip, but in a way my own memorial to Brubeck, his work and the impact he had on jazz around the world.
